Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good talking watch? I'm looking for something that's reasonably unobtrusive, in other words, no damned roosters or annoying "bong" sound when I check the time.
I'd also like a stopwatch, alarm and timer function. I was thinking about one of those reizen Atomic watches, but I haven't seen one yet. Also, are there any that actually look reasonably stylish? All the ones I've looked at appear to have that cheep, plastic sort of look.
thanks,

try calling computer room services, they are a small company in the UK which ddeal in exaclty the watch you are looking for according to your spec. it has an unobtrusive male voice, speaking english. it had an alarm, calender, stopwatch, and timer. it also can announce on the hour, but that is hardly obtrusive either. they are similar in style to the old vox watch from Tandy. A very good watch for a very fair price, and no I don't work for computer room services. I've just had a few watches in my time *smile* the watch is priced at £27 or there abouts. of course if you're outside the UK shipping charges might be added.

i forgot to put the website for computer room services in my last post. it is:

RNIB also does the watch Polar Bear was talking about. You're looking for the Cobolt talking Calendar watch, priced at £26.99. This has a stopwatch, hourly report function, snooze alarm and no annoying roosters or chimes before the time is announced or the alarm goes off. Also, the watch I'm wearing now is from RNIB and it's radio controled. It doesn't have a stopwatch, but it only bleeps when the alarm goes off and it doesn't have an hourly report function.
Jen.
There is this particular sports watch that Maxi-aids sells that looks pretty stylish. It's also quiet, and has 16 different music alarms. I could find the code for you from my order history if you're really that interested...Just send me a private message over the zone, or add me on one of my profile messengers. the watch is only like $15 or so.
Wow, I did not know you could get a talking watch that didn't have the bong before the anouncing time.
I bought my talking watch from QVC and I love it! It is more stylish than others I've seen, and most importantly, it works! The number of talking watches I've bought that are so bulky and die so quickly. Here is the qvc info, if anyone is interested.

BTW, is there somewhere in the US where one can buy the watch without the bong?
I like QVC products, but can this watch be set without sight? I'd rather have a watch I need no sighted assistance setting up.
Yep, I believe you can do it on your own. Of course the visual time may not match, but that doesn't bother me.
One of the alarm settings is a nice chime sound, I hadn't heard that option before. Lol, there is the rooster and an annoying beep as well.
Let me know if you like it. *smile*
Thanks. I don't mind when the visual time doesn't match the talking time either. I'll look on qvc.com and let you know if I end up buying the watch.
O hang on! The radio controlled watch does have hourly report facility, bt it isn't very easy to turn it on without pressing about three different buttons to get in to the alarm, change the time zone or hourly report modes, so it shouldn't really bother you.
I used to have a talking watch with a mettal strap and 1 button to tell the time. There was a winder to turn the visual display, but to set it you have to get hold of a pen and press in one very small button for the hours and one for the minutes. I found it quite hard to set and I don't care about the visual display anyway.
